GF Red River Wins NDHSAA Girls Tennis Team Dual State Championship

GRAND FORKS – Grand Forks Red River has reclaimed the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s Girls Tennis Team State Championship.

The Roughriders defeated defending team champions West Fargo Sheyenne 3-2 on Thursday at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.

A year ago the Mustangs ended Red River’s 14-year run of consecutive team dual championships – the most in state history.

On Thursday, it was a tight match between the two prep tennis powers.

Red River won the two doubles matches and picked up a win at No. 2 singles to edge the Mustangs.

Red River’s Maddie Anderson defeated West Fargo Sheyenne’s Preeti Chemiti 7-5, 4-6 and 6-1.

The two doubles teams (Anna Caoili and Brooke Kennelly) and (Isabel Krogh and Kassidy Johnson) won their matches 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-2, 7-5, respectively.

Red River has now won 22 team state titles in program history.

Individual singles and doubles tournaments begin Friday, June 2 in Grand Forks.
