VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The 2017 North Dakota High School Activities Association boys soccer season kicks off this weekend across the state.

Varsity competition begins Friday, August 18 at the annual East-West Crossover in Jamestown.

West Fargo won the 2016 NDHSAA state title defeating Fargo Shanley 2-1 in the title game at Sid Cichy Stadium.

The 2017 NDHSAA boys soccer state tournament will be played October 12-14 at Jamestown High School.

Minot was picked to win the West Region in a preseason coaches’ poll conducted by the Western Dakota Association earlier this month. The Magicians received 33 points (three first place votes) in the poll followed by Bismarck Century (30 points, one first place vote). Bismarck received three first place votes in the poll and checked in with 29 total points. The narrow margin of points in the preseason poll likely means a season full of close matches out West.

Fargo Shanley has been the East Region’s No. 1 seeded team at the state tournament the last seven seasons (2010-2016). Shanley and West Fargo have been two of the top teams out East for several seasons. The race for the top four state tournament qualifying spots in the East Region will be competitive.
