Central Cass wins Class B softball state championship

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The Central Cass fastpitch softball team has been a perennial state championship contender since the Class B softball division began being sanctioned in 2012.
On Saturday, June 2 at Lyle “Trapper” Lawrence Field in Jamestown, the Squirrels were playing in their sixth state title game in seven years. Central Cass seized the opportunity defeating Des Lacs-Burlington/Lewis and Clark 11-0 in five innings.
The state championship is the third in program history for the Squirrels. Central Cass also won state titles in 2013 and 2015.
Catcher Isabelle Linnard and first baseman Payton Richter each homered for Central Cass in the title game. Outfielder Kaitlyn Houle was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and run scored for Central Cass.
In the circle Lexi Buhr pitched a complete game shutout striking out eight batters and yielded only two hits and two walks.
Lakers pitcher Erica Hermanson was 1-for-2 at the plate.

THIRD PLACE: BISHOP RYAN 17, THOMPSON 7
FIFTH PLACE: KINDRED/RICHLAND 13, NORTHERN CASS 3 (6 INN.)
SEVENTH PLACE: HEART RIVER 6, WATFORD CITY 3
