FARGO – Central Cass continued its winning ways in NDHSAA Class B softball state championship games on Saturday, June 4 at Tharaldson Park.

The Squirrels defeated Kindred-Richland 11-1 in six innings to win the program’s fourth consecutive NDHSAA Class B softball state title and sixth overall state championship since the Class B Division of softball began in 2012.

Central Cass needed a walkoff, two-run home run by senior Peyton Nelson on Friday night to defeat Renville County 3-2 and advance to its ninth state title game.

Kindred-Richland scored first in the top of the second inning. The 1-0 advantage didn’t last long as the Squirrels put together a six-run third inning ignited by a two-run double off the bat of sophomore infielder Grace Fletschock and punctuated by yet another big two-run home run hit by Nelson. Nelson’s Saturday blast hit off the center field scoreboard at Tharaldson Park.

Junior Tori Richter pitched a complete game striking out four batters.

Central Cass and Kindred-Richland are now 2-2 in Class B state championship game meetings. The Vikings edged Central Cass in 2014 and 2017. In addition to Saturday’s title game win against the Vikings, the Squirrels also won the 2019 meeting between the two squads.
