West Fargo Wins 2017 NDHSAA Class A Softball State Title

MANDAN, N.D. – West Fargo High School continued its prep fastpitch softball dynasty on Saturday, June 3 with a 5-2 win over Bismarck High School during the championship game of the North Dakota High School Activities Association Class A Softball State Tournament at Ft. Lincoln Field in Mandan.

The Packers struck first getting a three-run homerun off the bat of senior outfielder Gabrielle DuBois in the first inning.

West Fargo added a run in the fourth inning thanks to a homerun by freshman Torrance Nichols-Kraft.

Bismarck answered with a run in the top of the fifth inning when Jaime Barta connected for an RBI-single that scored Maddy Steckler. The Demons added a run in the top of the sixth when Michaela Casey drove in Lakyn Stork with an RBI-single.

Sami Dullum connected for an RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth to put West Fargo up 5-2.

West Fargo has now won nine NDHSAA-sponsored softball state championships. Prior to 2009 when softball was first sponsored by the NDHSAA, West Fargo had won 11 club state championships.

The Packers opened the state tournament with a 9-1 win over Minot and followed up with a 10-0 victory over Dickinson in the semifinals.

The Packers finish the season 33-3.

Earlier Saturday, Minot defeated Valley City 10-2 in the fifth-place game and Dickinson topped Bishop Ryan 9-3 in the third-place game.
