JAMESTOWN, N.D. – On Saturday, West Fargo Sheyenne and Fargo Shanley met in the NDHSAA Class A baseball state championship game for the second consecutive season.

Just as they did in 2021, the Mustangs came away with the state title.

West Fargo Sheyenne defeated Fargo Shanley 3-1 at Jack Brown Stadium to seal up the repeat.

Leading the effort for the Mustangs was junior pitcher Casey Clemenson who struckout eight batters yielding one earned run off five hits in a complete game victory.

Tied 1-1 in the early innis West Fargo Sheyenne scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back.

Senior shortstop Brennan Haman provided the Mustangs with a spark in the leadoff spot going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Sophomore Caleb Duerr was 2-for-3.

Senior Tate Gustafson was 1-for-1 with a walk, sac fly and a run scored and two RBIs.

Gustafson’s hit was a big one – a RBI double in the bottom of the third that gave Sheyenne a 2-1 lead. Junior Konner Entz connected for a sacrifice fly later in the third inning that scored Gustafson.

Shanley was led by sophomore shortstop Thomas Simon who was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Deacons.
