Grand Forks Red River Wins Class A Boys Golf State Title

GRAND FORKS – Grand Forks Red River watched a 10-shot Day 1 lead in the NDHSAA Class A Boys Golf Tournament turn into a neck and neck race with West Fargo Sheyenne at the Grand Forks Country Club.
In the end the Roughriders maintained its Day 1 lead to capture the NDHSAA Class A state championship. Red River shot a two-day team total of 622, two strokes better than Sheyenne (624).
The state championship is Red River's first since 1996. Red River now has won 10 NDHSAA Class A boys golf state championships.
Individual medalist honors went to Wahpeton senior Justin Nelson. Nelson entered Day 2 four shots off of Day 1 leader Adam Van Raden of Grand Forks Red River. Nelson shaved two strokes off his Day 1 total to card a 1-over 73 to finish 4-over (148 strokes) for the two-day tournament winning by one stroke. Sheyenne senior Cole Johnson finished 5-over for the tournament (149) for second place. Van Raden and Red River teammate Mat Halvorson each finiashed 6-over (150) for the tournament.
Wahpeton's last individual medalist was Marty Berg in 1976.
