Grand Forks Red River Wins NDHSAA Boys Tennis Team Dual State Title

GRAND FORKS – Grand Forks Red River’s boys tennis team reclaimed the title of being the top program in North Dakota after winning the 2016 North Dakota High School Activities Association Boys Tennis Team Dual State Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Grand Forks Choice Health & Fitness.

The Roughriders defeated Bismarck Legacy 3-2 in the championship match.

Red River opened the day with a 5-0 win over Jamestown in the state quarterfinals and followed up with a 5-0 win over West Fargo Sheyenne.

The Roughriders had won 17 straight NDHSAA Team Dual State Championships (1998-2014) before losing to Fargo South in the 2015 final. Red River has now won 18 of the last 19 state championships.

Cool temperatures in the state forced the tournament indoors Thursday.

In individual singles competition on Saturday, Oct. 8, Jake Kuhlman of Grand Forks Red River defeated Joe Beske of West Fargo 6-2, 6-0 in the championship match.

In individual doubles competition on Saturday, Oct. 8, the pair of Daniel Pierce and Kaden Johnson of Red River defeated Bismarck Legacy's Brian Swanberg and Michael Jane 6-3, 7-6.
