FARGO – West Fargo completed an undefeated football season on Friday, November 10 at the Fargodome.
The Packers defeated Minot 56-28 in the North Dakota High School Activities Association Division AAA championship game during Dakota Bowl XXV.
In order to be perfect, the Packers needed a second half comeback and the team delivered.
The Packers (12-0) trailed 21-20 at halftime. The comeback started with an onside kick that West Fargo recovered to start the second half. That play triggered the Packers’ rally and led to 22 straight points being put up by West Fargo.
Senior Jared Franek scored on a two-yard run to cap the Packers’ first drive of the second half.
Senior running back Alexander Sell followed with a 1-yard touchdown run. The ground game set up a big strike for the Packers’ passing attack when senior quarterback Andy Gravdahl connected with senior wide receiver Joe Pistorius for a 30-yard touchdown pass with 1:27 left in the third quarter.
When the dust settled, West Fargo held a 42-21 lead over the Magicians.
Gravdahl was 5-for-14 passing for 80 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the Packers in rushing with 127 yards.
The state title is West Fargo’s sixth in program history. The Packers won a Class A 11-man state title in 1993 and Division AAA titles in 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2003.
West Fargo spent the entire 2017 season ranked No. 1 in the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NDAPSSA) polls.
Minot finishes its season 8-4.
