FARGO – Saturday’s NDHSAA Class B team dual wrestling state championship match came down to the wire.

Lisbon and South Border were locked in a classic battle on the mat at the FARGODOME. The Broncos and Mustangs tied 33-33 after all 14 matches in the dual were wrestled leaving the championship to come down to criteria, which Lisbon won via criteria of fewest forfeits in the match. The final score of the dual was 34-33 in favor of Lisbon.

The Broncos were the No. 1 seeded-team entering the tournament and found themselves trailing 30-27 when Jace Nitschke picked up a pin for the Mustangs at 138 pounds. Jon Shockley followed up with a decision at 145 pounds giving South Border a 33-27 edge heading into the last match of the dual.

The pressure was on Lisbon’s Boeden Greenley, who won an individual state championship at 152 pounds on Friday afternoon. Greenley came through for the Broncos scoring the bonus points needed to tie the dual by picking up a pin in his match.

South Border had forfeited at 182 pounds earlier in the dual giving the Broncos the criteria needed to clinch the team’s third consecutive Class B team dual state title. Lisbon has won four Class B team dual state championships in program history.

Lisbon finishes the season with a 16-1 dual record.
