Bismarck tops Fargo North/South in 2019 NDHSAA Girls Hockey State Title Game

FARGO – Make it five-straight NDHSAA girls hockey state championships for the Bismarck Blizzard.

Bismarck defeated Fargo North/South/Shanley/Oak Grove 2-1 in overtime during the championship game of the 2019 NDHSAA Girls Hockey State Tournament on Saturday, February 23 at Scheels Arena.

Bismarck took a 1-0 lead in the second period when eighth grader Madison Brown scored a power-play goal.

North/South/Shanley/Oak Grove tied the game 1-1 when sophomore forward Abby Promersberger scored on a penalty shot.

One minute, 19 seconds into overtime freshman forward Cameron Schmidt scored for Bismarck to seal the championship.

The Blizzard have now won eight state titles in program history. The NDHSAA began sponsoring a girls hockey state tournament in 2003.

Other girls tournament action on Saturday included Fargo Davies defeating West Fargo 3-1 in the third-place game and Dickinson defeating Grand Forks 5-4 in the fifth-place game.
