WEST FARGO – West Fargo High won its second overall and first outright NDHSAA boys swimming & diving team state championship on Saturday, March 2 at the Hulbert Aquatics Center.
The Packers scored 275 points as a team. West Fargo High’s previous state championship came in 2012 when it shared team state title honors with Fargo North.
West Fargo High was led by its underclassmen duo of sophomore Brody Engelstad and freshmen Isaiah Ayers that combined to win four individual state championships and also were members of the Packers’ 400 Yard Freestyle Relay that took first at the state meet.
Engelstad picked up individual state titles in the 50 Yard Freestyle (20.66 seconds) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (45.49).
Ayers won individual state championships in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:41.22 *new state record*) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (50.98).
Grand Forks took second with 230 points.
Fargo North senior Haydn Vein set a new record in the 200 Yard Individual Medley in a time of 1:52.86.
Bismarck High’s 200 Yard Medley Relay made up of Sam Eggl, Garrett Wick, Noah Zaidi, Blake Nelson set a new state record swimming to a time of 1:35.26.
