Kindred wins Class B boys basketball state championship

MINOT – One night after defeating No. 1-ranked and No. 1-seeded Four Winds/Minnewaukan in the semifinals of the 2021 NDHSAA Class B Boys Basketball State Tournament, Kindred kept rolling right on through the final buzzer of the championship game.

In their program’s first ever appearance in a Class B boys basketball state championship game, the Vikings defeated Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 40-34 on Saturday, March 20 at the Minot State Dome.

Kindred, seeded No. 5 prior to the tournament, was led by junior Paul Olson, who scored 23 points.

Senior Alex Huber led the Rebels with 17 points.

The Vikings finished the season 21-4. Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier wrapped up the season 24-3.

Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier was making its first ever appearance in a Class B boys basketball state title game as a co-op program. Prior to Saturday, Edgeley (1990) and Kulm (1958) won Class B state championships prior to the formation of the Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier co-op.

In other action Saturday, Grafton defeated Four Winds/Minnewaukan 58-47 in the third-place game, Dickinson Trinity defeated Rugby 72-47 in the fifth-place game and Powers lake defeated Shiloh Christian 60-49 in the seventh-place game.
