JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Less than a half hour after her older brother Wil won the NDHSAA Class A boys cross country individual state championship, Bismarck Century sophomore standout Ruby Ihmels was celebrating an individual state championship of her own.
Ihmels raced to a first-place time of 17:28.1 on Saturday, October 26 Jamestown’s Parkhurst Campground/Pipestem Reservoir. The Imels family now has five NDHSAA individual state titles in their household as Wil won one earlier on Saturday in Jamestown and Ruby and Wil’s father Corey won three individual state championships competing for Williston from 1989-1991.
In the team points race, the championship came down to 6th runner, tie-breaking scoring criteria. Williston and defending state champion Bismarck High knotted up with 86 points each, however, the Coyotes’ sixth runner (Brooklynn Kitchens) finished 31st compared to Bismarck High’s sixth runner who finished 79th.
