FARGO – The impressive 81-game unbeaten streak against North Dakota opponents in boys hockey by the Grand Forks Central Knights came to an end Tuesday, January 14.
Fargo South/Shanley defeated Central 3-2 at Scheels Arena.
The previous loss against a North Dakota opponent came on February 26, 2016 against Bismarck High. The Demons defeated the Knights 4-3 in the state semifinals.
During the streak Central was 79-0-2. Both of the ties came in the 2017-18 season against Fargo Davies and Grand Forks Red River.
Central has won the last three NDHSAA boys hockey state championships (2017, 2018, 2019).
The Knights are now 11-2-0 overall this season. Central’s other loss was a 3-2 overtime loss to East Grand Forks, which competes in the Minnesota State High School League.
