NDHSAA Member School Alumni: Tylee Irwin, former girls basketball standout at Wahpeton HS

This week's NDHSAA Member School Alumni Spotlight shines on Tylee Irwin, a 2017 graduate of Wahpeton High School. Below is a list of accomplishments in Irwin’s prep and collegiate athletic career.

TYLEE IRWIN - PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL STANDOUT AT WAHPETON HIGH SCHOOL

GRADUATION YEAR: 2017

HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC CAREER

BASKETBALL:

  • Named 2017 North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NDAPSSA) Miss Basketball Award winner. 

  • Named 2016-17 North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year in girls basketball. 

  • Three-time North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NDAPSSA) Class A Girls Basketball All-State First-Team selection (2015, 2016 and 2017)

  • Graduated Wahpeton High School’s all-time leading scorer (2,192 points). 

  • Record holder of 16 career, season and single-game records for Wahpeton High School.

  • Also posted 963 career rebounds for the Huskies.

  • Four-time All-Eastern Dakota Conference Team selection (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).

  • 2017 North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) State Senior Athlete of the Year.

  • 2017 North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) East Region Senior Athlete of the Year.

  • Helped the Wahpeton Huskies to NDHSAA Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament appearances in 2016 and 2017.

  • Named to the All-Tournament team at the 2016 and 2017 NDHSAA Class A Girls Basketball State Tournament. 

  • Averaged 25.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.5 assists per game her senior year for the Huskies

  • Averaged 20 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 2.7 steals and 2.1 blocks per game for the Huskies while shooting 40.8 percent from the floor and 75.7 percent from the foul line her junior season.

  • Averaged 18.5 points and 9.2 rebounds per game her sophomore season.

  • Averaged 16.8 points and 7.7 rebounds her freshman season.

  • Averaged 8.8 points and 3.7 rebounds as an eighth grader while playing for the varsity.

TRACK & FIELD:

  • Competed in Track and Field for six seasons.

  • Finished fourth in the Class A Girls 400 Meters (1:00.07), sixth in the high jump (5 foot-1 inch) and 300 hurdles (46.47) and helped the Huskies to a school record and third place in the 4x100 relay at the 2017 NDHSAA State Track and Field Meet

  • Won East Region Girls Track and Field championships in 300 meter hurdles, 400 meter run, 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay in 2016 (Junior Season). 

VOLLEYBALL:

  • Competed in varsity volleyball for three seasons.

  • Named All-East Dakota Conference selection in 2016 (senior season).

COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL CAREER

  • Played five seasons at South Dakota State University (2017-2022).

  • Helped the Jackrabbits to three NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Tournament appearances (2018, 2019, 2021). 

  • Helped the Jackrabbits to an NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Tournament appearances (2018, 2019, 2021). 

  • Helped SDSU win the 2022 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball National Invite Tournament (NIT) Championship.

  • Finished her collegiate women’s basketball career with 1,379 points, 577 rebounds, 263 assists, 168 steals and 73 blocks. 

  • Played in 159 games at South Dakota State.

  • Made 121 starts during her career at SDSU including 36 during the 2021-22 season. 

  • All-Summit League First Team Selection (2020-21 season).

  • All-Summit League Honorable Mention (2021-22 season).
