PHILADELPHIA – Matt Strahm, a 2010 West Fargo High School graduate, played in the 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 16.
Strahm, a left handed relief pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, made an appearance in the seventh inning for the National League recording one strikeout in a ⅓ of an inning pitched. Strahm threw five pitches – all of which were strikes.
The American League defeated the National League 5-3 at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
When Strahm entered the game, the play-by-play TV broadcasters for FOX mentioned his prep baseball background at West Fargo High School.
Strahm is in his ninth season pitching in the MLB. He is 4-1 this season with the Phillies with a 1.49 earned run average and 47 strikeouts.
Strahm was the first North Dakota High School graduate to make an All-Star Game roster since Darin Erstad – a 1992 Jamestown High School graduate. Erstad was named an MLB All-Star in 1998 and 2000. Roger Maris – a 1952 Fargo Shanley graduate – was a 7-time MLB All-Star.
